Zagorje Family Adventure
Your adventure begins with a visit to one of the most modern museums in Europe – the Krapina Neanderthal Museum, where interactive exhibits and fascinating displays tell the story of Neanderthal life. The museum is dedicated to our prehistoric ancestors and showcases their way of life, tools, artifacts, and skeletons dating back to the Middle Paleolithic period. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum complex features an interpretive center and educational programs, and it is located near a significant archaeological site where the remains of Neanderthals who lived more than 100,000 years ago were discovered.
After exploring the museum, we suggest a short walk along the Hušnjakovo Educational Trail, which follows the natural surroundings of the site and enhances the experience of this unique location. The 2.5 km circular trail connects three key points that form a thematic whole: the Krapina Neanderthal Museum and Hušnjakovo paleontological natural monument, nearby Dolac Lake, and the ruins of the Chapel of the Holy Three Kings, the highest point of the trail.
From prehistory, we jump forward in time! Our next stop is the Oldtimer Museum, home to an incredible collection of historic cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. It’s a treat for both kids and adults who love all things on wheels and want to admire the engineering wonders of the past.
We’ll wrap up the day at one of Zagorje’s charming restaurants with breathtaking views, where a traditional lunch awaits – homemade dishes, fine local wine, and a peaceful view of rolling vineyards.
